Werder Bremen celebrates Akpala capture!

German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen said they expect striker Joseph Akpala to increase competition for first-team places at the club.

A satisfied Werder Bremen Manager Klaus Allofs told the club’s website that Akpala would provide another option in attack for his club.

"We always said that we would look on the transfer market until August 31 if we could find something useful offensively. We are happy that we could convince Joseph Akpala to join SV Werder,” Allofs said.

“He will increase the competition within the team. And of course we hope he can score the odd goal."

"Joseph has proven in many games that he is a physically strong striker, who profits especially from his quickness. He is very present and dangerous in the opposition's box," added Coach Thomas Schaaf.

Akpala, 26, has featured for Charleroi and Club Brugge in Belgium.

The Jos-born star has earned five caps for Nigeria with a goal. He last played for Nigeria on August 11, 2010, against South Korea in a friendly.
