Performance of Nigerian players in the UEFA Champions League Play off

It was mixed fortunes for Nigerian players in Europe last night as the qualifying matches for this season's Uefa Champions League were played across the continent.

Emmanuel Emenike scored one of the goals for Spartak Moscow (in the 59th minute) in their 2-1 win over Joseph Yobo and his Fenerbahce teammates.

*Emenike had a decent performance

Taye Taiwo and Brown Ideye were also impressive for Ukrainian club, Dynamo Kyiv who won 3-1 at Borussia Monchengladbach. While Taiwo saw action for the entire duration, Ideye was replaced one minute to the end of regulation time.

Ayila Yusuf was an unused substitute and Lukman Haruna was not listed for the game.

*Ideye was impressive even though he didn’t get to score. So also was Taiwo who only got into the referee’s books midway into the 2nd half, but he was good in his position.

Injured Rabiu Ibrahim was not paraded as Celtic hit Helsingborg 2nil.
