Martins get rave reviews

Levante midfielder Michel was impressed with Obafemi Martins’ debut against Real Sociedad and feels the striker should have been credited three goals instead of just one.

‘Eshin’ has only recently signed for Levante after canceling his contract with Russian Premier League side Rubin Kazan.

Levante were lacking in firepower upfront following the departure of main striker Arouna Kone to Wigan and fans were hoping that Martins would be an able replacement for the new season.

The 27-year-old lived up to the expectations on his debut as he scored the match-winner with a late goal.

And it could have been even more impressive as Martins had a goal disallowed for offside earlier in the game as well. Impressed by the performance, Michel stated his view that the former Newcastle striker will greatly improve the standard of the Levante attack in the new season.

“Martins was incredible, he came on at half-time and scored three goals, but they disallowed two,” Michel told Spanish daily AS.

“I hope it’s the first of many goals. He will help us a lot, he gives us speed in the attack. In the game we knew he would score one that was going to impress, and look, he did it.”
