How Gabriel Agbonlahor nailed Villa

Gabriel Agbonlahor scored his first goals since January as Aston Villa twice came from behind to knock Manchester City out of the Capital One Cup at the Etihad Stadium.

England international Agbonlahor bagged a brace against the Premier League champions to end his drought as Villa triumphed in extra-time.

Mario Balotelli and then Aleksandar Kolarov had twice put the hosts ahead while Villa old boy Gareth Barry’s helped his former team’s cause with an own-goal equaliser and Agbonlahor swept home to ensure the 90 minutes ended at two apiece.

Charles N’Zogbia scored only his third goal since his summer 2011 move from Wigan to put Villa ahead early in the additional period.

And Agbonlahor then ensured there was no way back for the hosts with his second goal, a deflected effort, seven minutes from the end.

The result and last-16 spot will be a welcome boost for Paul Lambert’s men, who had started the season in poor form and were spanked 4-1 by Southampton at the weekend.
