Yakubu eyes Guangzhou derby debut

Aiyegbeni Yakubu says he is in good enough condition and hopes to make his debut for Guangzhou R&F. He says he is in good enough condition and hopes to make his debut for Guangzhou R&F on Sunday.

The 29-year-old striker was officially unveiled on Wednesday and told reporters he hopes to be involved against Guangzhou Evergrande on Sunday after his move from Blackburn.

"My physical condition is not the best. But it is OK to play," Yakubu told reporters.
"I really hope to play in the derby game against Guangzhou Evergrande. Anyway it is all about the decision of our coach."

Yakubu has penned a three-year deal with R&F, who are in desperate need of his quality after losing their past four matches to slip down to sixth on the Chinese Super League table.

The ambitious Guangdong-based club were promoted to the top flight this season and started the campaign well.

Yakubu told reporters his decision to move to Guangzhou R&F was influenced by their long-term ambition.

"After the negotiations with the boss, I liked the club's long-term plan," Yakubu said.

"I think Guangzhou Fuli (R&F) is the right club for me to join."
