Flying Eagles friendly with Benin cancelled
The friendly match which was scheduled to take place between
the Flying Eagles and their Beninoise counterparts this weekend has been put on
hold.
The friendly match which was scheduled for the Teslim
Balogun Stadium in Lagos on Sunday was
aimed at aiding the preparations of both teams for their upcoming African Youth
Championship qualifiers coming up against the U-20 teams of Tanzania
and Ghana
respectively.
The Benin Republic U-20 team were supposed to arrive at
Lagos on Friday evening, but will no longer make the trip as the Benin FA now
claim that a Court Injunction has made it impossible for their U-20 team to
turn up for the junior international friendly match.
The friendly match was supposed to be the first big test for
the Flying Eagles since their poor outing at the Cape Town International
Challenge in South Africa
at the end of May.
The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will take on the Junior Taifa
Stars of Tanzania in Dar-es-Salaam on July 28 in the first leg of the 2013
African Youth Championship qualifier, with the return leg in Nigeria
taking place on August 11.
