Clubs dare NFA over Federation Cup matches
The group stage of the Nigeria Federation Cup kicks off next
week Monday in four centres across the country, Lagos, Lokoja, Bauchi and Port
Harcourt but there is a huge doubt concerning the Bauchi centre as all the four
clubs scheduled to tango themselves have vowed not to travel to the city on
account of the spate of violence in the Northern part of Nigeria, which has killed
scores of people.
They reasoned that it would be suicidal to concede to the
Nigeria Football Association’s claims that adequate security would be provided
for the clubs in an area that is Boko Haram infested.
Publicist of Warri Wolves FC, Timi Ebikagboro said Friday
morning that the Delta State
side will not travel to Bauchi for the matches.
“The NFA is very unfair to have insisted we play the matches
where lives are not safe. The Delta State Sports Council has told the club not
to leave Warri unless the NFA changes the venue. These are fathers, uncles and
brothers to some people and it will be foolhardy of us to force them to
prosecute the games”
Ebikagboro also claimed that their group opponents Samba FC
of Enugu and Enyimba of Aba also
informed that they won’t be in Bauchi.
“We have been in contact with Enyimba and they vowed never to
step on the Bauchi territory, so also Samba FC. The NFA is just being
unreasonable and unfair to us.”
Warri Wolves, Enyimba, Lobi Stars and Samba FC are the teams
in the Bauchi centre of the 2012 Federation Cup .
