Victor Moses Must Stay on Gunners' Transfer Radar
With Arsenal on the verge of losing Rob van Persie and
souring on the disappointing Theo Walcott, Victor Moses needs to be taken
seriously as an option.
Walcott hasn't lived up to the considerable potential that
his athleticism would indicate with Arsenal.
Some of that is due to the way he's used in the lineup. Assuming that won't change, Walcott is being
wasted and Moses could be a solid long-term option.
At just 21, Moses has all the tools to develop into an
explosive player in the near future with great speed of his own.
The Nigerian player hasn't become a prolific scorer by any
stretch, but at this stage in his career he is still improving and learning the
game. He has good size and is very good
with the ball at his feet.
He could be a star if he can just put his considerable
abilities together. That can be hard to
sell based on the trajectory of Walcott.
Obviously losing a star like van Persie can't be offset by
acquiring an unproven young player, but Moses should be able to add a level of
excitement to the Gunners' attack for years to come.
Moses' six goals this season are triple what he managed in
2011-12 and he should continue to add to those totals as he matures.
Speed in any sport is a coveted asset and this is no
different. If Walcott isn't producing
and if Arsenal have truly soured on him, they may as well replace him with a
slightly younger player that could have a higher ceiling.
Not that it's wise to get rid of a 23-year-old burner that
has scored 22 goals for the club over the past two seasons, but if they have no
intentions of extending his contract, it's time to find a replacement while
they can.
Should Moses replace Walcott it will be interesting to watch
their individual development over the coming years. Younger, more fit and with less baggage, it looks
like the time to give Victor Moses a shot.
