Flamingoes coach upbeat ahead women's U17 World Cup draw

Coach of Nigeria U17 women’s team Peter Dedevbo has said he will be ready to face any team at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Azerbaijan.

The draw for the tournament will be staged on Friday and Dedevbo will jet out of the country Wednesday to witness the draw.

“I do not want to bother myself with the teams who will be in our group, or which team I don't want to play against. What I am thinking about is playing any team in the group and go beyond the group stage,” said the Flamingoes coach Dedevbo.

“All I am aspiring for is to do better than our performance at the last edition."

At New Zealand 2008, Nigeria were eliminated after the group matches, while at Trinidad & Tobago 2010, the team lost out at the quarterfinal by eventual winners Korea Republic.

To qualify for the forthcoming World Cup, Flamingoes beat Kenya and Zambia, scoring 12 goals and conceding only a goal.

Teams will be drawn into four groups and matches will be played in two cities of Baku and Lankaran from September 22 to October 13.

Africa will be represented by three West African countries, Gambia, Ghana and Nigeria.
