Chukwumerije, Isa arrive camp, as doctor declares Team Nigeria drug-free

Nigeria’s captain to the London 2012 Olympic Games, Chika Chukwumerije, and Issah Muhammad Adam, both of who are registered for the taekwondo event, yesterday joined their compatriots at the Games Village.

In company of the Taekwondo Federation of Nigeria secretary, Chinedu Ezealah, the duo arrived London yesterday from Asia, where were camped for their final preparation for the games.

Chukwumerije, a bronze medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and golden girl of Nigerian athletics, Blessing Okagbare, are the captain and vice captain respectively of Team Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Team Doctor, Dr. Kenneth Anugweje, allayed fears yesterday when he said that the Team Nigerian athletes are so far clean to compete.

Nigerian officials have been drumming the dangers of doping to the athletes, whom they warned that Nigeria does not want medals tainted with drugs.

“Team Nigerian athletes are so far clean. Tests earlier carried out in the Surrey camp only confirmed earlier reports at the Athletics championships in Calabar.  Of the three athletes in the team facing charges of doping violations, hearing has been held for two. One is likely to be cleared,’’ Dr Anugweje.
