NOC Boss spills it…administration our bane!

It is now obvious that the house of sports in Nigeria is now very divided owing to the shambolic performance of our athletes at the Olympics and the officials are now speaking up!

Pleading with Nigerians to take easy on our athletes at the Games yesterday in London, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, Engineer Sani Ndanusa begged Nigerians not to crucify the country’s athletes, saying the nation’s representatives have tried their best given the circumstances they found themselves.

He said the athletes tried their best considering the fact that their preparation for the championship was not as long and intensive as those of other countries’ athletes.

“Those that won medals started their preparations 8 years ago, they took part in many tournaments which put their athletes in the position to perform brilliantly, this is an elite level of competition so we need elite level athletes.

“We don’t have elite training facilities, we don’t have enough good coaches, the private sector has to come on board; we have to develop a strategy of developing our sports”.

“We made it at the heats but faded out in the finals because of the caliber of athletes we had to face’.

He said the present situation has made it auspicious for Nigeria to re-strategize and plan for the next tournament if the country is to make any appreciable impact in Brazil 2016.
