Goal-line technology  gets all clear for Premier League debut this season

Goal-line technology has been given the go-ahead after a yes vote by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) in Zurich.

The technology could be used in the Premier League as early as the 2012/13 season following its first introduction in the Fifa Club World Cup in December.

The Premier League have been given the all clear to launch the two systems GoalRef and Hawk-Eye mid-way through the forth coming season, after they both met Fifa criteria systems.

Goal-Ref uses microchips in the ball to work out whether it has crossed the line to determine whether the goal should stand.

Hawk-eye has been successfully used in tennis and cricket, and according to Fifa the both systems will take than a second to complete.

The news will be welcomed by football fans across the world who have seen their side on the wrong end of goals that have been missed or allowed.

The introduction is not only good news for fans but also officials in the game who constantly state how much easier the use of Hawk-Eye and GoalRef would make their job.
