Victor Moses can’t force Chelsea switch

Wigan Athletic manager, Roberto Martinez insists the English Premier League campaigners will not be bullied into selling Victor Moses or any of their players unless it is right for the club.

The future of the player has been the subject of feverish speculation since the end of last season, with European champions Chelsea hot on his trail.

However, each of Chelsea’s bids have come up short of Wigan’s valuation, and Martinez says Moses will be staying put as long as that remains the case.

He also says keeping his squad together is his No.1 goal of the summer – rather than looking to bring in new blood.

“The priority is not bringing players in,” he told the Observer.

“The priority is the players we have here and getting them up to speed as quickly as we can. It’s very important that the group of players we have here are still motivated and excited about the challenge ahead – and that is the case.

“When you start being successful on the pitch, you are going to attract the attention of bigger clubs. I have always seen that as a positive.

“The important thing is we are in a position where we don’t need to sell.

“Anything that does happen will be a natural football transition, and that can only help Wigan Athletic going forward.

“I am delighted we are in such a strong financial position, because that allows you to look at football decisions rather than financial positions.”
