Yobo sure of victory in Monrovia

Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has said that the Super Eagles cannot afford to lose Saturday’s crucial 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against Liberia in Monrovia.

“I would plead on behalf of the team that our fans should support us in Monrovia. It is not going to be easy playing against Liberia on their home soil. It is going to be one of the most difficult games away from home,” Yobo said in Abuja during the team’s media parley today.

“Away from home has never been easy since I have been around and we know this. Now we have another opportunity to put things right.

“So if we don’t lose this game it is good and if we draw it it’s not bad because we have them at home to play. But the most important thing is whatever happens we cannot lose this game.”

Yobo who has just returned to the squad after a lengthy period of injury said that the Eagles will not be deterred by the antics of the home crowd.

“I think we are used to [getting booed]. The players playing in Nigeria are used to not being cheered by host teams’ fans.

“We the foreign based players are also used to this. When you play away from home in Europe the host fans rain curses on you, they jeer at you, throw stones at you and all sorts of threats.

“This is our career and this is what we are used to. So we are not pressured by this if the Liberian fans employ these tactics against us come Saturday.

“We just need our home people to support us and be behind us in the match,” said the Fenerbahce defender.
