Questions for the sports ministry and NSC to answer...
Now that Team Nigeria athletes and officials of the National
Sports Commission/sports ministry are back in the country, i ask these
questions.
What became of the Team Nigeria brand that was launched
years ago?
What became of all the partners brought into Nigerian
sports?
How come Corporate Nigeria doesn’t trust sports
administrators in Nigeria ?
How come the zones are now lame duck?
Where are the discovered athletes from the zones?
What happens to those manning the zones after the
disrespect, disgrace and ridicule that we have been subjected to?
How come programmes are not followed to adequately prepare
athletes?
What goes wrong with planning ahead of major championships?
How come the boss of the NSC deceived Nigerians into
believing all was well before the Olympics and never raised any alarm that
release of funds was going to be an impediment in London ?
What became of all the submissions made by several panels
and committees set up for sports development in Nigeria ?
How come there is no connection between the ministries of
sports and education for the benefit of schools sports, where athletes in their
natural state should be discovered?
How come we have no facilities again in the country or
better still, how come the facilities are in total state of rot and decadence?
Our table tennis players train in the dark. How come sports
minister and DG NSC? How come?
We don’t even have grasses to play on any longer. We even
heard that the grass pitch of the Abuja National Stadium will soon give way to
a synthetic surface! What became of watering cans and canons?
Now let’s talk about our athletes DG and minister.
How come grants don’t ever get to our elite athletes in time?
How come our athletes still compete one week to world
events?
How come our coaches are never well trained, that’s if there
are trainings at all?
Should we believe that not a single Nigerian can be trained
to be a world beater?
Are we so poor in all ways that not a single Nigerian can
compete favourably with their peers abroad? What happen to our power in the
sprints and relays?
Are we to believe that despite surrounded by water, no Ijaw
man can be trained to take part in any of the aquatic sports?
How come our national sports festival that is meant for
discovery of raw talents have not turned to shambles, where even athletes
abroad now compete?
What happened to the Mambilla Plateau and Obudu for long
distance races, especially with their altitudes?
And to our money, we tax-payers…we ask…
What becomes of the 2.2 billion naira released for the
Games?
What was the money spent on?
What was the manner of disbursement?
Are we going to see the balance sheet in the spirit of the
Freedom of Information?
Hmm…what a country, what a system, what a people!
